Think about the extra sugar they have to add to make it taste as nice again. Low fat does not automatically equal low calories either so check the label before buying.

If you make your own food fresh rather than use ready meals then you will be on the right track in terms of helping yourself lose weight. The real tip is to know exactly what is going in to your food, and unless you make it yourself then this will not happen.

Searching for other brands of food instead of one you always use will help you burn the calories as well as helping you to make sure you are eating the best version possible of the food you consume. Sometimes the regular version of one brand is better for you than the low fat version of the others. Take the time to look as it will be worth it in the end.

Don't stick to reduced fat products and eating less, a really simple ways to make sure you cut calorie intake is to buy lots of greens and multi colored fruit and vegetables. The first exercise is hindu squats.
Here's what's up with these. They're quick squats. Bodyweight only, no weights needed. Your goal... to do or average AT LEAST 20 squats per minute. So if you're just going to do them 1 minute at a time, get in at least 20. And so on... here's a quick rundown of it...

20+ squats in 1 minute
40+ squats in 2 minutes
60+ squats in 3 minutes
80+ squats in 4 minutes
100+ squats in 5 minutes

You just need to do a total of 5 minutes a day. If you can't average 20 squats per minute, then do 1-2 extra minutes so that you'll do at least 100 hindu squats each day.
Remember... these are done fast. Give it your best effort. Poor effort gets poor results.
The second exercise is called the vacuum pose.
This is a version of the old sucking in your belly. Don't write this off! It works. In fact, there's not a better exercise for reducing your waist size. NOT ONE!
So put in 5 minutes a day of sucking in your belly. Be sure to put your focus on sucking in your lower abs. This is harder than sucking in your upper belly... which is what most people do.
That mistake of sucking in their upper bellies costs people inches because you don't get nearly the results compared to sucking in your lower belly.
Want numbers? Ok... I have worked with OVER 3,700 women online. Not all of them do this exercise and report back to me, but 100's do report back to me. The results... in 5 minutes a day, they average a loss of... OF... 1.75 INCHES FROM THEIR WAISTS. And they do that in just under 4 weeks.

Jumping Jacks What a fun way to lose weight. Jumping Jacks speed up your metabolism, gets the blood
flowing and exercises virtually all the major muscles.

Stepping Get a wood box, put some music on and step up and down on it for a great workout. This one
can really get your heart racing and strengthens the leg muscles.

Touching Toes Believe it or not just doing toe touching exercises will increase your metabolic rate,
strenghten your back and help stretch your leg muscles.


Explosive Training

Explosive, or ballistic training, involves lifting extremely heavy weights in a style not typically associated with bodybuilding. Instead of calmly moving the weight in a controlled manner, the trainer drives the weight up in an explosive manner. Speed is emphasized. The goal isn't the 'pump', as with most training. The goal is simply to lift a heavy amount of weight as fast as possible using the entire body.

Explosive lifting leads to greater core strength, which will make the body stronger the next time you attempt to lift weights in your standard, controlled manner. Explosive training is what many new trainers use in the first year or two of training, when they don't know much about what is considered proper form or lifting speed. Ironically, it is during this time period that many bodybuilders make the best gains. So maybe there is something to it!

Fast-twitch muscle fibers are used when muscles are asked to lift in this explosive manner. Since they are larger and more plentiful than slow-twitch muscle fibers, and they are often neglected in standard bodybuilding training, you are able to stimulate a new set of muscle to grow. Muscle fiber types are a topic often overlooked in bodybuilding, which is odd in a sport where grown men will measure their protein down to the individual gram. Perhaps entire 'grids' of muscle fibers are being neglected, and bodybuilders often don't seem concerned. Use of varied techniques, including explosive training, allows the bodybuilder to stimulate these fibers, which can lead to new growth. And at the very least, moving heavier weights will add to motivation and make the trip to the gym more exciting.

Some exercises are more effective than others when it comes to explosive training. Compound movements always work best. Being able to recruit core resources to assist with the lifts are very beneficial. Bench press, standing military press, and squats are good movements to use when attempting explosive training. Always use a spotter. Also, devote extra time each workout to stretching and warm-up sets. The likelihood of injury is greater when using explosive force to lift a weight instead of the standard muscle groups. However, the benefits can be worth this risk. The growth that occurs as the body is forced to adapt to this stressful new workload will lead to new muscle growth. The body is a powerful organism, which adapts to just about everything you can throw at it, so why not throw some heavy weights at it from time to time?

A classic training split is a 4 day a week routine which generally involves doing two days on and one day off. This will also free up the weekends if performed on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. A great way to split up the workouts on this program is to do upper body one day and lower body the next. This allows for training each muscle group twice per week. This can be quite effective since studies show that increasing the volume or frequency of training can elicit an excellent response.
Many bodybuilders prefer, however, to train each body part only once per week. Following this protocol on a 4 day a week routine, you could train chest and triceps on Monday; back and biceps on Tuesday; shoulders and abdominals on Thursday; and legs on Friday. There are many potential combinations that can work here, depending on one's personal preferences.

Carbohydrates are something we hear a lot about. Eat a lot of them--according to one group of professionals. Don't eat any of them--according to another group of experts. That's all well and good, but what exactly is a carbohydrate?

Calories--they're everywhere. We hear about them constantly. We know we need to reduce our intake of calories, but what exactly is a calorie?
In the most technical terms, a calorie is a unit of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water 1 degree Celsius at a specified temperature.

NOTE: We were recently contacted by a visitor who advised that our definition of calorie differs from that provided on other sites. The simple truth is that our definition is of a "large calorie" which is the type used to determine the calorie counts in foods. A "small calorie" is defined as a unit of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius. A "small calorie" is the type of calorie used in chemistry and physics. It takes 1000 small calories to equal a "large calorie" or "food calorie." As far as your diet goes, a "large calorie" or the definition provided above this note is the one you should be concerned with. We hope that clears up the confusion. Well, that isn't terribly enlightening. Perhaps it is easier to understand a calorie in less technical terms. Every food contains calories. Almost every liquid we consume contains calories with the exception of water, coffee, tea, and diet soft drinks.

A gram of fat contains approximately 8 calories. A gram of carbohydrate or protein contains approximately 4 calories. Of course, some carbohydrates may be slightly higher or lower. But the 4-calorie rule is a good base.

A pound of body fat contains approximately 3,500 calories. By reducing calorie intake (what you eat every day) by 500 calories per day, you will lose one pound per week. If you work out and burn an additional 500 calories each day, you will lose two pounds each week.

Counting calories is important when using most diets. Carefully review your diet to see if you need to "count calories." If you do, don't forget to include caloried drinks, condiments, and those little breath mints. After all, adding 500 calories a week in little "extras" will reduce your weight loss by 1/7-pound per week. That doesn't sound like much, but if you need to lose a lot of weight, you'll start adding up extra dieting days quickly.

Calorie counts can be found on the labels of most prepacked foods. We have also provided calorie tables for some popular foods including fast foods.

Calorie Warning:аMost pre-packaged or easy-to-prepare foods appear to be low in fat and calories. The problem with them is the portion size. Take a look at the label. The portion size is probably ridiculously small. This tiny portion sizing allows the calories and fat to be reflected as something reasonable. It's easy to see how favorite foods can "sneak up" on our waistlines.

The Mediterranean Diet is rich in olive oil, fresh fruit and vegetables, legumes, fish and unrefined cereals. Mediterranean people have a moderate consumption of dairy products and wine, and a low consumption of meat, meat products and saturated fat. The typical constituents of a Mediterranean diet are:


Olive Oil

People living in the Mediterranean use olive oil, a monounsaturated oil, instead of saturated fats. They drizzle olive oil on their bread instead of butter, they use it as a salad dressing and cook with it.

Olive oil is rich in vitamins and antioxidants which help to prevent cancer, clogging of the arteries and heart disease. Olive oil lowers bad cholesterol and increases the amount of good cholesterol, keeping our arteries healthy. It helps to keep our digestive systems healthy, is good for brain development and is thought to help dissolve blood clots.

Look in your recipe collection for using olive oil and substitute olive oil for saturated fats.


Fish


Northern Europeans and Americans eat a diet high in red meat, Mediterraneans eat a diet high in fish and shellfish. Red meat is a source of saturated fat which can cause heart disease whereas fish and shellfish are high in minerals and proteins, and low in fat. Dr Lindberg's diet is designed to improve overall health as well as weight loss by sticking to what he calls a 'slow carb' approach.
In this respect it is similar to the GI diet which focuses on foods that are digested slowly and are more satisfying.
But like the Atkins diet, Dr Lindberg's plan cuts down on starchy high-carbohydrate foods - such as white bread, baked potatoes and rice. It also encourages plenty of protein and fats - but only those regarded as healthy.
Unprocessed vegetable fats found in nuts, seeds, avocado and olives, cold-pressed vegetable oils such as canola and olive oils, and fatty fish are all favourites on his menu.

Directions:

Mix the sugar and lemon rind quickly in the food processor.
Add eggs and blend until it becomes a nice cream.
Continue blending while slowly adding the oil.
Blend until it is well mixed then add the vanilla.
In a separate bowl sift the dry ingredients all together (flour, allspice, nutmeg, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon).
Mix the dry ingredients slowly into the batter blending until it becomes a nice thick cream.
Add grated apples and blend quickly into batter just to mix. Be sure not to overblend as this may shred the apples too much.
Add raisins and pulse the processor as to just mix them in and not shred them.

It is difficult to trace the ancient history of the strawberry plant or strawberry tree, because there are so many different, complex, undefined species, and they have evolved in so many different places and countries.

There are more than 600 varieties of strawberries. Each variety of strawberry differs in flavor, size and texture.

What foods provide vitamin A?

Vitamin A and its metabolites retinal and retinoic acid appear to serve a number of critical roles in physiology, as evidenced by the myriad of disorders that accompany deficiency or excess states. In many cases, precise mechanisms are poorly understood. Some of the well-characterized effects of vitamin A include:
Vision: Retinal is a necessary structural component of rhodopsin or visual purple, the light sensitive pigment within rod and cone cells of the retina. If inadequate quantities of vitamin A are present, vision is impaired.
Resistance to infectious disease: In almost every infectious disease studied, vitamin A deficiency has been shown to increase the frequency and severity of disease. Several large trials with malnourished children have demonstrated dramatic reductions in mortality from diseases such as measles by the simple and inexpensive procedure of providing vitamin A supplementation. This "anti-infective" effect is undoubtedly complex, but is due, in part, to the necessity for vitamin A in normal immune responses. Additionally, many infections are associated with inflammatory reactions that lead to reduced synthesis of retinol-binding protein and thus, reduced circulating levels of retinol.
Epithelial cell "integrity": Many epithelial cells appear to require vitamin A for proper differentiation and maintenance. Lack of vitamin A leads to dysfunction of many epithelia - the skin becomes keratinized and scaly, and mucus secretion is suppressed. It seems likely that many of these effects are due to impaired transcriptional regulation due to deficits in retinoic acid signalling.
Bone remodeling: Normal functioning of osteoblasts and osteoclasts is dependent upon vitamin A.
Reproduction: Normal levels of vitamin A are required for sperm production, reflecting a requirement for vitamin A by spermatogenic epithelial (Sertoli) cells. Similarly, normal reproductive cycles in females require adequate availability of vitamin A.
More Sources of Vitamin A
Vitamin A is present in many animal tissues, and is readily absorbed from such dietary sources in the terminal small intestine. Liver is clearly the richest dietary source of vitamin A.
Plants do not contain vitamin A, but many dark-green or dark-yellow plants (including the famous carrot) contain carotenoids such as beta-carotene that serve as provitamins because they are converted within the intestinal mucosa to retinol during absorption.
Vitamin A is stored in the liver as retinyl esters and, when needed, exported into blood, where it is carried by retinol binding protein for delivery to other tissues.
Vitamin A Deficiency and Excess States
Both too much and too little vitamin A are well known causes of disease in man and animals.
Vitamin A deficiency usually results from malnutrition, but can also be due to abnormalities in intestinal absorption of retinol or carotenoids. Deficiency is prevalent in humans, especially children, in certain underdeveloped countries. In herbivores such as cattle, vitamin A deficiency is usually due to lack of green feed, such as in animals coming off of dry summer pastures or those fed poor quality hay. Because the liver stores rather large amounts of retinol, deficiency states typically take several months to develop. Some of the more serious manifestations of vitamin A deficiency include:
Blindness due to inability to synthesize adequate quantities of rhodopsin. Moderate deficiency leads to deficits in vision under conditions of low light ("night blindness"), while severe deficiency can result in severe dryness and opacity of the cornea (xeropthalmia).
Increased risk of mortality from infectious disease has been best studied in malnourished children, but also is seen in animals. In such cases, supplementation with vitamin A has been shown to substantially reduce mortality from diseases such as measles and gastrointestinal infections.
Abnormal function of many epithelial cells, manifest by such diverse conditions as dry, scaly skin, inadequate secretion from mucosal surfaces, infertility, decreased synthesis of thyroid hormones and elevated cerebrospinal fluid pressure due to inadequate absorption in meninges.
Abnormal bone growth in vitamin A-deficient animals can result in malformations and, when the skull is affected, disorders of the central nervous system and optic nerve.
Vitamin A excess states, while not as common as deficiency, also lead to disease. Vitamin A and most retinoids are highly toxic when taken in large amounts, and the most common cause of this disorder in both man and animals is excessive supplementation. In contrast, excessive intake of carotinoids are not reported to cause disease - you cannot use the excuse of potential vitamin A toxicity to avoid eating carrots or green vegetables!
Both hypovitaminosis A and hypervitaminosis A are known to cause congenital defects in animals and likely to have deleterious effects in humans. Pregnant women are advised not to take excessive vitamin A supplements, and some medical authorities also recommend that they consume liver only in moderation, which is usually not a hard sell to make.

Vitamin B1
Vitamin B1, also called thiamin is a water-soluble vitamin that is essential for the breakdown of carbohydrates

Thiamin is found in whole-grain cereals, bread, red meat, egg yolks, green leafy vegetables, legumes, sweet corn, brown rice, berries, and yeast.

Vitamin B1 Deficiency
Thiamin deficiency is rare. However, thiamin deficiency often occurs in alcoholics. It occurs in alcoholics because alcohol interferes with the absorption of thiamin through the intestines. Vitamin B3, also called niacin, is needed for the metabolism of food, the maintenance of healthy skin, nerves and the gastrointestinal tract.
Niacin is found in protein-rich foods.
The most common protein rich foods are: meats, fish, brewer's yeast, milk, eggs, legumes, potatoes and peanuts.
If too much niacin is consumed, itching, headaches, cramps, nausea and skin eruptions may occur.
Vitamin B3 is also called nicotinic acid and nicotinamide.

More than 500mg can cause irreversible nerve damage. The nerve damage can cause impaired walking, numbness, tingling and poor sense of touch.

Deficiency of pyridoxine is rare. However, pyridoxine deficiency often occurs in alcoholics.
Deficiency causes skin disorders, disruption of the nervous system, confusion, poor coordination and insomnia.

20+ squats in 1 minute
40+ squats in 2 minutes
60+ squats in 3 minutes
80+ squats in 4 minutes
100+ squats in 5 minutes

You just need to do a total of 5 minutes a day. If you can't average 20 squats per minute, then do 1-2 extra minutes so that you'll do at least 100 hindu squats each day.
Remember... these are done fast. Give it your best effort. Poor effort gets poor results.
The second exercise is called the vacuum pose.
This is a version of the old sucking in your belly. Don't write this off! It works. In fact, there's not a better exercise for reducing your waist size. NOT ONE!

easy on the body and provides a mental escape from the crazy daily grind.


Pushups Increase your metabolic rate and increase muscle mass using pushups. Pushups are especially
beneficial to your arms and chest. Start slow... do as many as you can then repeat the set again.
Increase both your reps and sets in daily small increments.

Situps Situps help to increase your heart rate and metabolism. They are effective in reducing the fat
around the midsection which doctors show leads to increased possibility of heart attack or stroke. Like
pushups, start slow and build up your exercise repetitions slowly.

Squats Great for strengthening the butt and leg muscles. Be careful with this exercise however, as it
causes high stress on the knees and hips. Start the exercise in a standing position with legs about
shoulder length apart. With hands either at your side or straight in front of you, squat down then come
back up.

Jumping Jacks What a fun way to lose weight. Jumping Jacks speed up your metabolism, gets the blood
flowing and exercises virtually all the major muscles.

Stepping Get a wood box, put some music on and step up and down on it for a great workout. This one
can really get your heart racing and strengthens the leg muscles.

Touching Toes Believe it or not just doing toe touching exercises will increase your metabolic rate,
strenghten your back and help stretch your leg muscles.


Explosive Training

Explosive, or ballistic training, involves lifting extremely heavy weights in a style not typically associated with bodybuilding. Instead of calmly moving the weight in a controlled manner, the trainer drives the weight up in an explosive manner. Speed is emphasized. The goal isn't the 'pump', as with most training. The goal is simply to lift a heavy amount of weight as fast as possible using the entire body.

Explosive lifting leads to greater core strength, which will make the body stronger the next time you attempt to lift weights in your standard, controlled manner. Explosive training is what many new trainers use in the first year or two of training, when they don't know much about what is considered proper form or lifting speed. Ironically, it is during this time period that many bodybuilders make the best gains. So maybe there is something to it!

Fast-twitch muscle fibers are used when muscles are asked to lift in this explosive manner. Since they are larger and more plentiful than slow-twitch muscle fibers, and they are often neglected in standard bodybuilding training, you are able to stimulate a new set of muscle to grow. Muscle fiber types are a topic often overlooked in bodybuilding, which is odd in a sport where grown men will measure their protein down to the individual gram. Perhaps entire 'grids' of muscle fibers are being neglected, and bodybuilders often don't seem concerned. Use of varied techniques, including explosive training, allows the bodybuilder to stimulate these fibers, which can lead to new growth. And at the very least, moving heavier weights will add to motivation and make the trip to the gym more exciting.

Some exercises are more effective than others when it comes to explosive training. Compound movements always work best. Being able to recruit core resources to assist with the lifts are very beneficial. Bench press, standing military press, and squats are good movements to use when attempting explosive training. Always use a spotter. Also, devote extra time each workout to stretching and warm-up sets. The likelihood of injury is greater when using explosive force to lift a weight instead of the standard muscle groups. However, the benefits can be worth this risk. The growth that occurs as the body is forced to adapt to this stressful new workload will lead to new muscle growth. The body is a powerful organism, which adapts to just about everything you can throw at it, so why not throw some heavy weights at it from time to time?

A classic training split is a 4 day a week routine which generally involves doing two days on and one day off. This will also free up the weekends if performed on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. A great way to split up the workouts on this program is to do upper body one day and lower body the next. This allows for training each muscle group twice per week. This can be quite effective since studies show that increasing the volume or frequency of training can elicit an excellent response.
Many bodybuilders prefer, however, to train each body part only once per week. Following this protocol on a 4 day a week routine, you could train chest and triceps on Monday; back and biceps on Tuesday; shoulders and abdominals on Thursday; and legs on Friday. There are many potential combinations that can work here, depending on one's personal preferences.

If you are working with a reduced calorie eating program that includes carbohydrates, you can easily determine your carbohydrate requirements by using the following formula:

Carbohydrates are something we hear a lot about. Eat a lot of them--according to one group of professionals. Don't eat any of them--according to another group of experts. That's all well and good, but what exactly is a carbohydrate?
   А         ▓ъП+   Text9 ╙ Calories.Where are they???








Calories--they're everywhere. We hear about them constantly. We know we need to reduce our intake of calories, but what exactly is a calorie?
In the most technical terms, a calorie is a unit of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water 1 degree Celsius at a specified temperature.

NOTE: We were recently contacted by a visitor who advised that our definition of calorie differs from that provided on other sites. The simple truth is that our definition is of a "large calorie" which is the type used to determine the calorie counts in foods. A "small calorie" is defined as a unit of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius. A "small calorie" is the type of calorie used in chemistry and physics. It takes 1000 small calories to equal a "large calorie" or "food calorie." As far as your diet goes, a "large calorie" or the definition provided above this note is the one you should be concerned with. We hope that clears up the confusion. Thanks to R.J. of Chicago, Illinois for putting us on notice!

Well, that isn't terribly enlightening. Perhaps it is easier to understand a calorie in less technical terms. Every food contains calories. Almost every liquid we consume contains calories with the exception of water, coffee, tea, and diet soft drinks.

A gram of fat contains approximately 8 calories. A gram of carbohydrate or protein contains approximately 4 calories. Of course, some carbohydrates may be slightly higher or lower. But the 4-calorie rule is a good base.

A pound of body fat contains approximately 3,500 calories. By reducing calorie intake (what you eat every day) by 500 calories per day, you will lose one pound per week. If you work out and burn an additional 500 calories each day, you will lose two pounds each week.

Counting calories is important when using most diets. Carefully review your diet to see if you need to "count calories." If you do, don't forget to include caloried drinks, condiments, and those little breath mints. After all, adding 500 calories a week in little "extras" will reduce your weight loss by 1/7-pound per week. That doesn't sound like much, but if you need to lose a lot of weight, you'll start adding up extra dieting days quickly.

Calorie counts can be found on the labels of most prepacked foods. We have also provided calorie tables for some popular foods including fast foods.

Calorie Warning:аMost pre-packaged or easy-to-prepare foods appear to be low in fat and calories. The problem with them is the portion size. Take a look at the label. The portion size is probably ridiculously small. This tiny portion sizing allows the calories and fat to be reflected as something reasonable. It's easy to see how favorite foods can "sneak up" on our waistlines.
